Sashalee Miller’s journey highlights the transformative power of sustained educational support. Beginning in August 2022, she became the first and only recipient to date for MUCFA’s three-year Owen James Memorial Scholarship, made possible through the James Family Fund. Unlike most scholarships at The Mico University College, this full award spanned three successive years, providing the stability needed for academic focus and success. Sashalee graduated with Honors, earning an Upper Second Class degree in Special Education. Pictured with MUCFA’s Chief Operating Officer Trevor Thomas following the 2024 Scholarship Award Ceremony, she represents the tangible outcomes of long-term investment in students.
Today, Sashalee serves at the Randolph Lopez School of Hope in the hills of St. Andrew, Jamaica, working with mentally and physically challenged students. She plans to pursue a professional career as a behavioral or educational psychologist, with the goal of earning either a master’s or doctoral degree. Her achievements honor the legacy of the late Mr. Owen James, co-founder and first Chief Operating Officer of MUCFA, and demonstrate how intentional support can shape purpose, open doors, and empower graduates to give back. Through scholarships like this, MUCFA continues to change lives and strengthen communities through education.
