MICO UNIVERSITY COLLEGE FOUNDATION OF AMERICA
Mico University College Foundation of America (MUCFA) was founded in 2016 by The Mico University College alumni from the class of 1962, and incorporated in the state of Illinois. It obtained IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in 2018 and started effective operations in 2019. Its mission is to be a preeminent vehicle for funding and the provision of human and other resources for the benefit of The Mico University College (MUC) and its students.
The Mico University College Foundation of America is the only entity apart from alumni affiliate chapters that has been accorded the status as a Mico brand by The Mico University College. In 2025, MUCFA was elected as a member of Mico Foundation. Mico Foundation was established by Lady Mico Trust to acquire and manage The Mico University College and other entities and properties it formerly owned and administered on the island of Jamaica.
MUCFA’s Board of Directors include representatives from The Mico University College, Mico Foundation, Mico University College Alumni Association and Major Donors. This representation ensures that all MUC’s major stakeholders are represented on the Board.
Since 2019, MUCFA has provided approximately US$450,000 in scholarships and other forms of financial support for 750 Mico University College students. It has also delivered funding to support diverse educational project endeavours, including infrastructure maintenance and enhancement. Among the projects MUCFA has funded at MUC is the installation of solar panels for the well on its campus. It will also provide additional funding to store the energy provided by the solar panels to complete that project. MUCFA continues to fund and provide human resources support for research, workshops and other educational undertakings like the provision of financial support for students who are transitioning to high schools at Mico Elementary and Junior High School.
Mico University College Foundation of America has been appointed by MUC as its agent in the diaspora for receipt of donations to provide financial support for students affected by Hurricane Melissa, which devastated the western end of the island in 2025. In 2025, Mico Foundation appointed MUCFA as its agent in the diaspora for receipt of donations to finance the renovation of the Buxton building which houses the administrative offices of MUC.
A major project of MUCFA is the creation of an Alumni Database to facilitate communication and interaction between MUC and alumni, and communication and interaction among alumni and alumni chapters. MUCFA has also harnessed AI to potentially enhance the administrative efficiency of MUC, and a presentation is to be arranged by MUCFA’s Technical Director that will illustrate its benefits to MUC.
